March Saturday Projects:
We have quite an exciting month for you! Early in the month we have YVC representation at the Rock Springs Youth in Action conference. On March 12 we will be helping Bridging the Gap in their efforts to clean up Kansas City. We will be compiling litter data to be used in cleaning up neighborhoods. In the middle of March we will be volunteering at a working urban organic farm in Kansas City, KS. Plus, make room on your calendars for our monthly YAB/NYSD planning meeting. This month the time has changed to accommodate our service project earlier that day: preparing lunch at Ronald McDonald House. Please don’t forget that National Youth Service Day is April 15-16, 2005. We need everyone’s help planning this event, as it is one of our largest and greatest projects of the year because it’s entirely planned by YOU! After School Project Update
Our Roadmap to Civic Engagement projects are going wonderfully! We have our Roadmap interactive programs going on at Ervin Middle School, Langsford House, and Bridge Home for Children. Each project involves smaller service projects while the students simultaneously learn about civic engagement. YVC Schedule of Events
12th...Help "Drive" litter out of KC Neighborhoods! On Saturday, March 12 we will be driving around Kansas City taking a litter inventory to help Bridging the Gap in their efforts to decrease litter in neighborhoods. This project lasts from 9am-1:00pm. This should be a great project! We will meet at Bridging the Gap's office in Westport. Drivers must be 18 years old, and parents and other family members are invited! Each car will need a driver, a navigator, and two people to index the litter. Bridging the Gap is located at 435 Westport Rd. #23 in KCMO. We need 10-20 volunteers.
We are also having a planning period for the car wash this day. This meeting begins at 1:30 P.M. at the YVC headquarters located at 4600 W. 51st street Shawnee Mission, KS
19th... Urban Organic Farm Day! Do you know what Organic Farming is? How is it different from regular farming? Come with us to find out! On Saturday, March 19 from 10AM-2:00PM we will be working with the Kansas City Center for Urban Agriculture on an organic farm in Kansas City! This is a new and exciting project! The organic farm is located at 4223 Gibbs Road in Kansas City, KS (more details to come!).
26th...It's time to show off your Culinary Talents! On Saturday, March 26 from 10:00AM-noon we will be cooking lunch at Ronald McDonald House. Come join us for loads of fun in the kitchen! After cooking lunch, we will head back to the YVC office (4600 W. 51st, SMKS) to have our YAB/NYSD meeting from 12:30-2:00pm. More details to come!
